1ST GEAR

Post by Para1 » Mon Oct 21, 2019 8:07 pm

We've all had it, anyone got a solution to find or resolve finding the allusive 1st gear on an MT350, someone sorted before but I can't find the thread ;)

Is your gear lever bent ? If you've been off roading it's easy to bend then. Remove lever and straighten in a vice

Is clutch cable adjusted correctly

Tickover too slow?

If the bike is moving, you should be able to select 1st easily

Do you have a clutch adjusting tool ( If not drop me a pm) an incorrectly adjusted clutch doesn't help

Is clutch lever bush worn ?

With fresh oil, the clutch release may be easier

The last thing would be to take off the side engine cover, strip clutch ( clutch holding tool required), clean plates and measure stack height, file out ridges in basket, renew clutch springs and plates if necessary

If you do all of the above and it still isn't right , ask again

If you don't want to do the work yourself, take your bike to Sportax

Good advice from Eric as always..

Strip and check the clutch and reface the clutch basket..

We do this job now whilst customers wait..

Hope that helps

Wirralman,
None of the aforemenioned you listed seem to aflict my bike so I suspect it might need some TLC from someone who has rectified the issue of seeking the 1st gear before like Minter, inside the box.

Unusual but if none of the above sorts it, then Sportax is the ONLY outfit I would trust. Good luck
