Trip knob is missing to reset mileage, any easy fixes? Can't find the part in the workshop manual....

Re: Trip
Your trip counter actually works? Thats a rare thing indeed! I'm sure I've seen replacement cables on either LMS or Sportax, knobs I'm not sure of. The oracal (aka Wirralman) will know more I'm certain.

Re: Trip
Tripmeter failure is quite common although both of the MTs I had on the road worked fine. Waiting for years in storage, both within service but especially after disposal, has not helped
From a military point of view, just draw a new speedo from stores and dispose of the faulty part, the cheapest and easiest solution. Hence it doesn't surprise me that you can't find either a part number or indeed a part.
The tricky situation now is that supplies of speedos are drying up.

Re: Trip
I believe the agreed upon solution is to open a bic biro and use the open end of the inner ink sleeve to slide over the trip reset spindle, rotating it should reset trip. Unless I've tottaly made that up.

Dans....Thank you
Barrie.....Neccessity is the mother of invention etc!
Wirral.....to general a search
All, what I want to to do is set the trip so I know roughly when to fill up (150 miles?), the other answer is to carry a 2l fuel bottle that becomes my reserve.

Re: Trip
With regard to range, it does vary by bike ,terrain, and riding style
I used to fill tank and reset trip After 110 miles i would fill up if i came across a fuel point When riding with others one time, I think I reached 128 miles before spluttering that was having switched to reserve a little earlier. I could probably found a little more if I tipped the bike over
I bought one MT350 and rode it home 300 miles, taking it easy 55 mph because I was unsure of the bike stopped after 110 miles and was surprised how little it needed So constant speed, not thrashing it unsurprisingly you use less fuel
A small 2 litre fuel can that slides into a pannier box is useful insurance, especially in remote areas

Re: Trip
I suppose the answer is to fit a tap with a reserve setting and a main.....does such a thing exist for MT500?

The reserve mechanism only works if the plastic tube that fits inside the tank is intact They often aren'tSloppy Link wrote: βSat Jul 07, 2018 3:51 pmI suppose the answer is to fit a tap with a reserve setting and a main.....does such a thing exist for MT500?
One member with a 500 engine fitted a new tap He said his 'reserve' was disappointly just a few miles
Fuel consumption is higher for the MT500 and riders often carry spare fuel

Re: Trip
It looks like the tube on my bike has gone as I found out last Thursday riding home when the engine abruptly stopped running at 50mph come down a lane near work. I pulled in, opened the filler cap and there wasn't a drop of fuel to be seen or smelled! I'd neglected to check the level that morning as I'd been in a rush, lucky for me I've got a knock-off rotopax 6L Jerry can on the bike at all times so I got home ok. I worked out my mileage, double checking against Google maps and it was just shy of 170 miles to a full tank.Wirralman wrote: βSat Jul 07, 2018 4:14 pmThe reserve mechanism only works if the plastic tube that fits inside the tank is intact They often aren'tSloppy Link wrote: βSat Jul 07, 2018 3:51 pmI suppose the answer is to fit a tap with a reserve setting and a main.....does such a thing exist for MT500?
