Which oil
Re: Which oil
It depends who you ask on here! I will sit back and enjoy the Halfords Classic gloop v Semi Synthetic v fully synthetic debate, plus the alleged dreaded bearing and clutch issues. Good luck. I am still unsure which is best so I will watch with interest. I nominate Mr Shiney to start.

Re: Which oil
I've always used the Halford's classic. Reasonable price and does what's needed. Army oil was not anything special.

Re: Which oil
As stated, there are other (exhaustive) threads on this subject. The original workshop manual says 15/50 mineral but that isn't easy to get hold of - and it's 30-year old technology. Some say the clutch will slip with fully synthetic. Personally I use semi-synthetic 10/40 Vauxhall trade oil which I buy in bulk and use it in all our bikes. Never had a problem.

Re: Which oil
I use 15/40 mineral in all my bikes except the Z1000. I also use the same stuff in my Landrover. Bulk buy and change regularly.
These are not race bikes (unless you are Minter) they are decades old technology and don't need anything fancy.

Re: Which oil
yes thats true ,but it was an electrical breakdown , which doesn't have much to do with which oil i use , so i still maintain semi is ok , i get no clutch issues , well maybe just ask minter of his opinionsMr Shiney wrote:And that reflects in the constant reliability of yours.....mt bandit wrote:i use semi synthetic 15/40 , the working window is greater than mineral, i mean chip fat![]()

Electrical fault not mechanical.Mr Shiney wrote: And that reflects in the constant reliability of yours.
I use what the engine manufacturer recommends. Rotax recommend a specific oil and you lot argue about it as if they don't know what they're talking about, you think they just made it up for a giggle ?
