After breakfast we would ride to Bamford Clough in time to see the first competitors come through the section. We aim to be at the parking area by 0830.

If there is any demand Richard is happy to do a guided tour around the area later on.

Please confirm if you are coming. If it is anything like last year's event, it will be a great day and we will be able to cheer on Gary Minter and Phil Arceye as they ride through.
Cheers

Ah thats good, plenty of guys to help pick me up off Bamford Clough.

I was there, had a great chat with Garrys Dad, there had been a big hold up earlier in the day so timings got well messed up. I managed to get some good pics, but due to the cold (and forgetting to charge the camera... I hate these none standard battery packs!!) I was keeping the SLR in my coat. When Garry came through I had knocked it onto the wrong setting :( managed to change things for Arceyes ride through. Ill try and sort uploads ASAP.

I was amazed by the skill of 'the old boys' just ticking over and making it look so easy, then guys on modern bike smashing, bashing and thugging up almost out of control, couple of honda step throughs, an aprilia sports bike with TKC80's (amazing to watch that) Quite a few fell, the stop was where I had come off on the MT trip out the other year.

Some amazing bikes, Lu has got a liking for the Beta Urban 125 special (looks like a crosser but drop the seat and 'tank cover' and you have a trials bike) On that point Lu would like a 'short' off rd bike she has an inside leg of 28".

Yesterday a few of us , Richard63, Rustybike and DSG marvelled at our two friends Gary (Minter) and Phil (Arceye). Both had the same challenge -get up the hill with no dabs BUT Phil MT350 has to do a compulsory stop and restart, whereas Gary MT500 did not.

Gary was first up and had clearly decided that he needed to add his own parameters to add some drama. We had already seen lots of competitors come up the Section but he was the fastest machine by far, making it look effortless. We watched in awe.

We had already seen many competitors stuggle with the stop-restart with bikes crashing to the ground, one on top of the rider, most with riders jumping partially clear and we had seen many struggle just to get up the hill at all. Phil showed great control and just cleaned the section with no drama despite a riding bike far heavier than most. A different challenge from Gary's but equally well executed. Hats off to Phil as well.

The youtube clips courtesy of Rus give only part of the picture in that there isn't a comparison with other competitors. Gary and Phil were both fantastic- well done guys.

Thanks for the support guys, sorry i didnt stop long enough for a chat.
Thanks to Gary, it was a privilege to ride around with such a talented rider. Many other competitors were very impressed the way he tackled obstacles.
After an hour ride to Gary in the rain it was looking bad. :(
We loaded the van and Gary drove another few hours in heavy rain.
We started the Trial at 02.34 from Tamworth services in more rain.
Fortunately it dried up in time for the first few tests but was very slippy.
Going to Wales seems to have helped improve my riding and i managed most of the tests without dabbing too much.
The hardest test for me was Putwell B where we had an hour wait because it was taking so long for the Marshals to drag machines out the way !
It was a long easy climb until you turn the corner and have to ride over large protruding rocks. Then stop on them and do a restart. After a slip i did manage to get over it. :D
Dudwood looked like a simple ride around a tree but when i got there i see six people with a rope pulling a car out of a quagmire. Competitors were reluctant to try it so Minter decided that was his cue ! Off he went wheel spinning, mud flying everywhere drifting a complete circle around the tree !! 8-) Everyone was amazed.
So not to be out done i promptly rode into the mud and collided into the tree ! Great fun.
We finished about 4pm, packed the van and Gary's dad drove while we struggled to stay awake on the way home.
I think i have persuaded Minter to do the Lands End Trial on 29th march so we will be needing another member to make a team up.... Any takers ? ;)
