Re: MT500's in use by the UK Post Office?

Thanks for the replies gents. Minter. The frame is Red as well as the plastics, so it looks to be one of the NI 'Reds' as opposed to the Post Office. Wirrelman. Firstly, I took your advice to remove the sump filter. Straight forward job, and boy was it worth it. (See photo). I'd recommend this to an...

Re: What have you done to your MT today ? contd

Dropped the skid pan and sump to clean out before an oil change. I was surprised (but not a lot), to find the debris in the picture. It seems it was last done when Noah was an apprentice. The sludge was almost solid, so anyone wanting to do an oil change, this is recommended. https://i.postimg.cc/y3...

Re: MT500's in use by the UK Post Office?

Just a quick addition. The chap I bought it off says it came from storage in NI. When he doesn't know, but that might answer a question. Just the strange data plate to research...

Re: MT500's in use by the UK Post Office?

Thanks for the info. I take it you mean the Military ones in NI; would they have had CV/MV data plates? There must be some old crusty MT wallah out there who serviced these things in-country as it would cost too much to have sent them back to the mainland for servicing etc. The 'Red' plot thickens.

Re: Looking for an MT500.

Thanks Wirralman, I got as far as the paper oil filter and primary oil filter coming off and the latter being previously tightened with six feet of scaffolding welded to the spanner. In the process of getting it off in a HD vice, the two attachment flanges got bent. A bitch of a job to get them back...

Re: MT500's in use by the UK Post Office?

Thanks for the posts Gents, it gets more interesting as time goes on. Next summer I'll strip her down and find out just how much of the original Red parts have survived. She is currently black and green on top, so I suspect she has had parts added in the distant past after being possibly stripped of...

Re: MT500's in use by the UK Post Office?

Hello MT,

I've just checked the VIN plate and it just has 193627 stamped on the plain plate. On looking at the manual. it's not the same type as shown.

Also, the engine number is 193704. So a new V5 is in order.

Thanks.

Re: MT500's in use by the UK Post Office?

Hello MT,

Thanks for the swift reply. The VIN is 193627, with the V5 showing the engine as the same number!

Is there a database that I can access to check on the VIN?

Re: Looking for an MT500.

Ah, pressed button B and didn't get my money back... I am now the owner of an MT500 that is in need of TLC (as I suspect most are when they have been in not-so-careful hands). The oil and biblical filter (plus primary), being the first port of call. I have posted a question re the use of these by th...

Re: Looking for an MT500.

Hello Gents,

Thanks for the warm welcomes and replies. Never having been on a site, I didn't reply due to finger trouble (and work taking me away). Apologies for that, but now back on and hoping to contribute something along the way.
